As the world fights Covid-19 and lockdown continuing around the world, thousands of workers were stranded. Many have lost their jobs, and thousands have lost their precious lives. With no assurance when the world will open its door for business, everyone is in constant fear. It’s regrettable and heartbreaking to see the number of deaths increasing day by day. With families far away from each other, and it’s not sure when one could meet their loved ones, this pandemic has created a panic attack on everyone.
Amid all the chaos, the Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait under the leadership of Mr. Didier stands strong and firm to its commitment to prioritize human resources besides everything else. Today, we all must agree with what some employees say during the post-September 11,
“You could have acted like everyone else and fired us. You didn’t. You stuck to what you’ve always said about people coming first. And your credibility in our eyes couldn’t be higher” (Pp.256 of Four Seasons- The Story of a Business Philosophy).
‘You will never go hungry if your father knows how to fish.’ The picture and quotes are very relevant during these hard times. Mr. Amir makes sure no one remains hungry.’
Mr. Amir, the Housing Manager of luxurious five-star staff accommodation, is making sure that every employee under his roof is protected from the pandemic. The management is also always keeping in touch with the stranded employees who are in the hotel due to sudden lockdown and Darna (A luxury five-star staff accommodation), and taking care of all the necessary needs during this crisis. It may be noted as the world started the ‘We care movement,’ FS Kuwait is also leading by example by showing the love and care for each other.
At Darna, the Happiness Innovation Team (HIT) has placed an appreciation board so members could write a note of gratitude to each other. It’s a Four Seasons’ way to show we care about and appreciate each other.
‘If you appreciate someone, then, let them know. Don’t let another day goes by.’
It’s overwhelming to see that Covid-19 has brought all of us together; the bond in us is more reliable than before. Managers who could not be with the team physically due to lockdown are sending a note of encouragement to the team and vice versa. It is overwhelming to see a letter from the Founder and Owner of Nosh, Ms. Tanya, who is the official food and beverage trainer for Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
Let’s check out their messages.
1- DIDIER JARDIN (General Manager at Four Seasons Kuwait)
In a world of uncertainties…
There are things that I’m CERTAIN, and we have it at the Four Seasons Kuwait – the most engaged, compassionate, and caring employees.
Darna has become more than ever a big family, everyone is caring for each other, and even a few leaders came out of their nest.
Since the lockdown of Darna, the hotel has become housing for other staff, creating a “home away from home” environment. Some of you are in your home country, taking care of your family, and others are at your home in Kuwait. But wherever you are, we are all linked by one thing, our care for each other. Whilst you can not control the uncertainties, I’m certain you can continue to care for each other.
Thank you for all for what you do, keep up the spirit, and enjoy what you have today, and do not forget the power of connections. Let’s all keep in touch.
Be well, my friends.’
We will come back – stronger and better.
2- GEORGES SAFI (Hotel Manager at Four Seasons Kuwait)
‘It is in times of crisis that heroes are born. This is the time where Four Seasons culture has to shine. This is the moment for extra effort, forgoing the extra mile, for treating others the way we want to be treated.
Each one of us is managing all our personal challenges. Despite those tough times, your passion and contribution to the Four Seasons family, whether in Darna, in the hotel, or from wherever you are stuck, was never more powerful and meaningful. I would like to recognize, appreciate, and thank you all for your efforts.’
The perfect definition of The New Normal.
3- TANYA WANGNER-KLAUMSANN (Founder and Owner of Nosh Company)
‘As I sit here in Germany, 4000km away from Kuwait, a part of me will always be with the FS Kuwait team. It comforts me to know how you are all living together at your incredible employee housing. I can picture the entrance, your cafeteria, living rooms, and your outside entertainment area. Even though you must all have had enough of the four walls around you, remember that you have each other and the spirit of compassion and care. There is no doubt in my mind that you will return to your new normality with pride and dedication. That you will all continue the path of success that every one of you strived to build. Never forget….” We will, we will rock KUWAIT, rock KUWAIT”! I am hoping that I will get to see you all one day soon again. In the meantime, stay healthy and enjoy this life given to you.’
4- HANI OMAR (Senior Sales Manager at Four Seasons Kuwait)
I hope you are all doing well. Hope to see you soon. We shall work together again. Stay safe and take care.’
5- NAVINA LUCHMANAN (Senior Learning and Development Manager at Four Seasons Kuwait)
‘So many days have gone. Stay strong and take the time to focus on yourself and do things that you wished you could do before. Don’t let your mind trick you. Let your authentic version of you shine, and through storms, we will get there together. Be it at the hotel or Darna. I do sincerely miss you all and can’t wait to be together again. Take care and virtual hugs to you all.’
6-VASHISHT MUNGUR (Hotel Assistant Manager at Four Seasons Kuwait)
‘I am currently part of the Hotel Emergency team; hence I have not been in Darna for a while but just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone staying in Darna for maintaining your positivity and big smiles. Your biggest weapon is your kindness to each other. Whenever you feel down, please focus on the things you have rather than the things you don’t have. In these difficult times, remember that we are all each other’s second family and that we have to support each other and go through this together. Look at yourself in the mirror and remember to pat yourself for the good job you do every day.’
7-MEERIM ASANOVA (Hotel Assistant Manager at Four Seasons Kuwait)
‘Please stay safe and see you very soon. I miss you all.’
8- ARISTOTE LAURENT (Public Relation Executive at Four Seasons Kuwait)
‘Bonjour from France! I’m miles away from Darna and all of you, but you’ve never been closer to my heart in those difficult times.
I hope I could send you some croissants and baguette from France, but unfortunately, by the time it arrives, it won’t be that good, so I just want to let you know that I think of you and I’m free to share a laugh and talk. See you all very soon, Inshallah!’
9- ANTOANETA BOYUKLIEVA (Restaurant Manager at Four Seasons Kuwait)
‘Every moment ( even the small ones at home ) makes a difference. “You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot – it’s all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that, I try to make sure that my experiences are positive. “
Love you all, let’s try to stay connected and appreciate every moment of our life during these tough times till we reunite again!’
10- COSIMO LARDO (Assistant Director of Food and Beverages at Four Seasons Kuwait)
‘Don’t be worried about what you cannot control; focus on what it is in your hands!!! Make a plan, roll it out, and you will see the positive outcomes!!! Stay positive’ 💪💪💪
11- MELINA RAGEAH- KOONJA (Banquet Manager at Four Seasons Kuwait)
‘If there is one thing that we’ve learned in Banquet is that, there are always going to be tough times and situations, but the beauty of it is, it doesn’t last long. We will get through this similarly and come out more robust and brighter. Remember, we are not a team because we work together; we are a team because we respect and care for each other. Let’s keep uplifting each other. Love you all !!’
12- ATISH KOONJA (Restaurant Manager at Four Seasons Kuwait)
‘”Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” Stay close to our family and friends. Stay Safe.’
13- RAHUL TULSIANI ( Restaurant General Manager at Riviera by Four Seasons)
‘These hard times will pass, but what will stay are the beautiful memories of unity, togetherness, and stories of how we as a team did everything possible to beat the situation. The occupancy will be 100% again, banquets will be full, and restaurants will keep calling for crunches. Morning briefings will be shortened for all us to get back on the floor ASAP, and when we look back, we shall smile and approach the tougher times ahead with open arms and smile on our faces.’
14- FABIO QUARTA (Executive Sous Chef at Four Seasons Kuwait)
‘Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass but learning to dance together in the rain. This, too, shall pass. We are Four Seasons.’
15- AYNUR MAMEDOVA (Director of Public Relations and Communications)
‘Stay positive, and the sun will rise again.’
16- DANNY GONSALVES (Department Head – Al Bandar)
‘This Covid-19 pandemic stands out in history as a world-changing event. Things are a bit hard and look difficult right now. But some things make me smile, including Zoom parties, zoom dance, zoom yoga, and the list goes on. The learning here is with every given situation; we evolve and adapt and come out of these tough times together stronger.
‘Keep your face towards the sun, and the shadow will always fall behind.’
So replace your negative thoughts with positive ones, and you’ll start having positive results.’
17- RUDAINA SAAD (Director of People and Culture)
‘We miss you. We love you.
What I hope we take away from this is that you know we are in this together. Moments like this are when we let our full light shine. Today, we are all adapting to a ‘new normal,’ and although this new normal may appear challenging, and at times scary, but remember you are not alone. We’ve to live out our Four Seasons values and lift one another in times of significant challenges. We will move forward and survive this storm together.
Sending my wishes that you remain safe, and you continue to excel in what you are doing. Let your light shine in these unprecedented times. All the best.’
18- SKANDER AYARI (Director of Food and Beverages)
‘Life is a succession of encounters; each of them can be stored in a crystal ball or a rubber ball. If the rubber ball falls, it will bounce back, and if the crystal ball falls, it will break forever. In these special moments, let’s treat each other as a crystal.’
19- AWAD MOHAMED ( Assistant Director of People and Culture)
‘We sense that ‘normal’ isn’t coming back, that we are being born into a new normal: a new kind of society, a new relationship to the earth, a unique experience of being human.’
To all who are away from Darna, We miss you and love you. We will soon get back together. Stay safe and stay healthy. From all of us Team Darna
Mr. Isadore Sharp, the Founder of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, pose for pictures with the FS employees during the Grand Opening of Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya (2017).
Mr. Sharp in his own words from his book ‘ Four Seasons- The Story of a Business Philosophy’ said, “Though we face a period of great difficulty and uncertainty, we do so as a company with the best locations, best facilities, best partners, best brand, and above all the best people in the world. Our people come from all races and religions, and we trust you will continue to deal with one another in the true Four Seasons spirit of the Golden Rule. Our long-term future is secure, and we will emerge from this crisis, with your help, stronger than ever, able to resume the growth plans for which we are fully prepared. Through these difficult times, I urge each of you to join me in looking to the future with hope and optimism.”
